Community Development

Building community is fundamental to who we are as MCC. People need connection and a place to belong. Loneliness and isolation are significant issues in today’s world and are also opportunities for us to develop new ways of engaging with people, such as online communities using different languages, as well as continuing to plant and grow churches. Strong communities need healthy, trained and empowered leaders, both lay and clergy. Our local congregations and church leaders have a wealth of experience and expertise. The networks are excellent ways of sharing best practice and learning from one another. We also want to develop our online learning and resources to share the excellent ministry that MCC does around the world.

Community Development is made up of two teams, Community Building and Leadership Development. Rev. Elder Héctor Gutiérrez is responsible for managing both teams.

Hector provides support and training to the Network Facilitators and Network Leaders. He also oversees our ICM churches in Latin America.

Wanda supports our new, developing congregations, helping them to grow towards being affiliated churches. She is also responsible for developing and supporting MCCers who wish to form a small community, either online or face to face, where it is not practical to develop a church.

Lauren is responsible for our General Conference planning, including working with the venue and planning programming. She also provides support for other events and conferences, where needed.

Cathy is responsible for supporting lay pastoral leaders and clergy. She oversees the ordination, licensing, vocational ministry, and retirement processes, and the Thriving in Ministry programme.

Laity Development, Diversity and Inclusion Co-ordinator (26 hours a week) – Position to be filled
This position is responsible for working with LEAD programme, developing other learning opportunities for laity and working with diversity and inclusion affinity working groups.

This position is responsible for working with affiliated churches, supporting with pastoral transitions and encouraging healthy church growth.

Cristiano oversees a variety of ministry teams in Brazil and supports ICM congregations there. He works with Rev. Elder Hector Gutierrez to support other leaders and congregations in Ibero-America, as required.

Resource Development

MCC needs to have robust and effective systems to be able to support all the ministry areas in Community Development. We want to have an excellent and user-friendly website, increase our presence on social media and continue to improve our internal communications. It has to be easy for MCCers to send us information and ideas, and for MCC to have up to date contact details for individuals and churches. Local churches around the world continue to be faithful in giving their assessments in a timely manner. We want to find additional income to support our global ministry and work with local churches to explore income opportunities for them too.

Fundraising Development and Assessments Co-ordinator – Rev. Dr Kharma Amos

Kharma oversees MCC income from assessments and is responsible for finding additional income streams, such as grants, donations from individuals and legacies.

Tammy manages MCC’s day to day finances and oversees the annual audits. She makes sure that staff stay within the budget and that bills are paid on time.

Marina looks after our supporters in the Moderator’s Circle and any of our donors as well as works with churches to develop assessment agreements which are realistic and recognise the current challenges a church may be facing.

Mike makes sure that all the IT systems are running smoothly and trains staff on how to use the different programmes we have. He oversees the database and provides information to colleagues to support their work. He also works on General Conference planning and the IT and database support needed for that.

Janine keeps the database up to date, sends out the Elders Call to Prayer, supports network leaders with their communication and provides administrative support to both teams.

Colleen is responsible for communication within MCC – newsletters, communications from Governing Board, Council of Elders etc. She co-ordinates responses to challenges, such as hurricanes and the COVID-19 virus situation.

Mr. Romberger is responsible for the creation and execution of a new outward-facing marketing campaign for MCC. He also oversees matters dealing with public relations, media relations, and publicity.

Cecilia is responsible for leading MCC globally. She is CEO and Chief of Staff, leading and guiding our staff team, Chair of the Governing Board and is a member of the Council of Elders. She is the spokesperson for MCC and is responsible for advancing the vision and mission of MCC worldwide.

Confidential Executive Assistant to the Moderator – Ms Marina Laws (part-time)

Marina manages the Moderator’s diary/schedule, attends to correspondence, helps to plan travel and other duties. She also provides administrative support for the Governing Board and Council of Elders meetings.
