Metropolitan Community Churches Calls for Continued Focus on Haiti
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! The conditions in Haiti continue to worsen as the dead and injured are found under mountains of rubble. Yet, even as more people are found, more assistance is making its way to the suffering. Your support of MCC Disaster Relief – Focus on Haiti can make a profound difference in the lives of our siblings in Haiti. Through these first few days, we have already received more than $3,000 for disaster relief in Haiti. Funds given to MCC Disaster Relief – Focus on Haiti will be used in three targeted ways: - We will provide funds to support the MCC congregation in the Dominican Republic, specifically, those members who are Haitian and their families with direct support.
- We will provide funds to support our partner HIV & AIDS organization in Haiti that has been devastated by the earthquake.
- If assistance to the first two organizations is no longer needed, we will provide MCC funds to a verifiable relief organization which will offer direct help to individuals in need.
If you have already given to this effort, THANK YOU! If you have not yet taken the opportunity to add your resources and prayers to the people of Haiti, please consider giving now. …or Give NOW to support this effort! More Food for Thought While MCCer’s around the world continue to offer support, Pat Robertson, chief spokesperson of the “700 Club” chose to minimize the earthquake’s destruction. (For the full text of Robertson’s statement, Click Here.)Mr. Robertson’s comments tear at the very heart of the Haitian people, misrepresenting their history and using this horrific earthly disaster as fodder for prejudice and religious propoganda. In a strong statement against this perspective of God’s activity in the world, MCC pastor Rev. Edgard Francisco offers a plea for understanding, support, and aid for suffering communities in Haiti. …or Give NOW to support this effort!
This statement prepared in conjuction with The Global Justice Team of Metropolitan Community Churches, The Rev. Pat Bumgardner, Chair. Join Us in Prayer One of our strongest allies in a life of faith is prayer. Please pray with us as a global people of faith. God who calls MCC to tear down walls and build up hope:We ask for Your help today for our sisters and brothers in Haiti. Jesus, we know that you are with them, in their shock, pain and terrible grief. God, we ask for resolve, to be a part of the short and long term solution for healing and hope in Haiti. Give us the strength to pray without ceasing, to give unstintingly, to challenge our governments and officials to everything necessary to save lives and restore health and well-being. We pray for those who even now, are in Haiti or on their way, offering comfort, help, protection, food, clothing, shelter and medical care. We pray that as the whole world watches, we also take action. As people of faith, may we act in the confidence that you are the God of all, that your steadfast love and mercy is from everlasting to everlasting. In Jesus’ name, and in Your many names, we pray, Amen. |
