MCC Governing Board Update from June and July

Governing board at GC

Hello to you all!

Both the June and July Governing Board meetings began in prayer.  In July, Rev. Elder Troy Plummer Treash spoke to us about sitting at the tree of our own lives and taking the time to care for our spirits. As always during the past year, we checked on where folk are on their “Covid journey.” While things are beginning to open in some places, many countries are still waiting for enough vaccines, even as the Delta variant is ravishing communities. The Governing Board continues to pray for our churches, our countries, and the world while there are so many still waiting for a vaccine.

Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston shared her Moderator’s report (see below). As always, she continues to inspire us all. During the July meeting, she reminded us that this is our two years in leadership anniversary. It has gone by so quickly. We celebrated the work that has been done and acknowledged the work that is ongoing.

We acknowledged the heart-breaking reality of the finding of 1500 First Nations children’s bodies in Canada. Seven residential schools have been looked into with many more to be explored. We offer this short prayer:

Great Spirit,
We come to you from all the directions, from all nations, from all ages, all genders, all abilities and giftedness, and all creation. We ache with the pain of lost children hidden from view for so long. We cry for families ripped apart and grieving again. We hear the earth scream “here they are, find them”. We feel the tears of the sky and see them fall on the earth bringing forth new life. Help us to heal. Help us to love. Help us to work to repair the broken relationship. Help us to find new ways to embrace all creation. Help us to stop the violence and find peace. Help us to recreate and recreate until all the peoples of the earth are whole again.

We come to you from all the directions, knowing you in many ways and yet to know you in many more. We give you our thanks and send our thoughts to you on the wings of the eagle. For all our relations, let it be so. Amen

The Financial reports for both months were affirmed (please see below). The Finance Policy Manual is continuing to be worked on. Thank you for the hard work of the Finance Team and all our Teams and Commissions. None of this is possible without you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

The Governing Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Deana Dudley, MCC Toronto’s Associate Pastor, as the new Judiciary Chair. She brings to this post experience as both a lawyer and Pastor. Congratulations!

Our weather patterns are shifting around the world. There are droughts and flooding. Disappearing ice shelves and islands. Hurricanes, typhoons, tornados, fires, landslides; it is as though the earth is resetting herself. Be safe and treat our planet gently.

May you be surrounded with God’s peace.
