MCC Governing Board 3rd August Meeting Update

Governing board at GC

Hello to you all!

Rev. Elder Maxwell Reay opened the meeting with the Mary Oliver poem, “Praying”.  Rev. Elder Maxwell shared a prayer reminding us to pay attention and seek justice for all. He ended by inviting us to reflect as we pass through doorways, as the poem suggests.

We began our business by checking where folk are in their “COVID journeys.” While things were beginning to open in some places, a sharp increase in the Delta variant infection rates has caused some churches to take a step back to online worship only or to continue with online services. We are continually aware of the privilege many of us have with vaccines being readily available to us. However, many countries are still waiting for enough vaccines, even as the Delta variant is ravishing communities. The Governing Board continues to pray for our churches, our countries, and the world while there are so many still waiting for a vaccine and for effective treatment.

Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston shared her Moderator’s report (see below). As always, she continues to call us all forward into the work of God in the world. We heard a brief report regarding the plans for the General Conference. Look for announcements to be coming soon with more information.

The Financial reports and snapshot will be available after our next Governing Board meeting. When the Governing Board meeting is very early in the month, the Finance Team has not had the opportunity to meet. This is the reason, occasionally, that we will not have the Financial Snapshot available.

The Finance Team has been hard at work establishing the policies and procedures for both the Endowment Fund and the Finance Team. Since our August meeting, it is with great gratitude that we are able to announce that the MCC Endowment Fund has now been opened. We will continue to work with the Henderson Financial Group to ensure that MCC has clear investment policies in place, for the endowment fund and for other investments. Thank you for the hard work of the Finance Team.

All our Teams and Commissions continue to move forward. None of the work of MCC is possible without you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

May the world know peace, and may we participate in its creation.
