Phot of governing board at general conference in Florida 2019

Dear Friends,

The May 12th Governing Board meeting began in prayer. Rev. Elder Goudy spoke to us about the “why” of our calling. As always during the past year, we checked in about where folk are in their “COVID journey.” Many countries had shut down again, while others are opening tentatively. Whatever is happening in your community, we pray that you are safe. We hope that everyone, everywhere will have equal access to the vaccine. We pray that, whether you want to get vaccinated or not, you have the option to choose to do so. Some churches are beginning in-person worship, others are waiting, and many are finding ways to combine multiple platforms and approaches. We celebrate with you that the church is alive in all of these ways.

Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston shared her Moderator’s report (see link below). We ask that you keep Orgena Rose, Rev. Elder Cecilia’s wife, in prayer as she recently lost her birth mother. She returned to the United States for the funeral. We are so sorry for your loss.

Good News: We heard an update on General Conference planning. As we look towards the future, incorporating what we have learned over the past sixteen months, we recognize that we may be able to do things quite differently. More General Conference updates will be coming up soon.

The Governing Board continues to work on its Human Resources manual. We look forward to its completion.

We reviewed our financial reports, which continue to show that we are healthy. You can see the Financial Snapshots at the bottom of the page. Thank you to our finance team.

MCC has officially entered a contract with James Hartman & Associates, who will be working with MCC this year on our public relations and media development. We welcome them to MCC. Please let James know about your press contacts and keep him up to date with important events at [email protected].

We welcome Tara Nelson as our new website contractor. She will be working on our internal website. Watch for any notices from Tara. We thank all those who have worked to develop our website over the years and look forward to the unfolding nature of our ever-evolving website. It is an exciting time in MCC, and we want more people to learn about where they can connect with us.

As we look to the future, MCC hosted two workshops under the Emergereality: “Using Design Thinking to Develop Worship in this New Era” and” Going to Church is like Going to the Beach OR How to do Hybrid Church.” These were well attended and very timely. If you were unable to attend or have missed other resource opportunities, do not despair, MCC has one link that will take you to the Resource Folder where you can open other folders and sub-folders. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Dv3gtp1MVF1KFXFzqXeHn5pCrZKqLRyo?usp=sharing

As we move towards the changing of seasons, from fall to winter or spring to summer, it reminds us that there is always a new day and a new way of seeing the world. In this time of moving ahead, may we do so with open minds and hearts. We are embracing the church of the future.

You are both blessed and a blessing!

Respectfully Submitted:

Rev. Elder Diane Fisher, Clerk, on behalf of the Governing Board
Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston, Moderator
Mark Godette, Vice Chair
Chad Hobbs, Treasurer
Rev. Paul Whiting
James Chavis
Rev. Alberto Najera
Clare Coughlin
Rev. Marie Alford-Harkey
