MCC Governing Board May Meeting Update:
Discussion and Financial Snapshot

Governing Board Narrative for 5 May, 2020:2020 Governing Board

Dear Friends,

As we are all still in situations of church worship services and meetings being done virtually, please know that we are praying for you and with you. The realities of this pandemic have put many of us on a steep learning curve with new technology and we know that can be exhausting. Please take care of yourselves and get rest. Thank you for responding with such grace and love. You are amazing.

Our meeting began with Rev. Elder Pat Bumgardner, on behalf of the Council of Elders, bringing us together in prayer. She reminded us to pray for essential service workers that often go unnoticed, store clerks, cleaners, cooks, hostel workers etc.

We were all glad to see James back at the table with us and hope that the treatments deal gently with him and bring him ever closer to health.

In our dreaming, we spoke about how our “new normal” might evolve. We spoke of the notion of a Hybrid Church; not quite returning to the church we attended when this started. We will continue to explore this as we move forward.

We approved our Moderator Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston’s monthly report. Please click on the link to read the Moderator’s Report. https://www.mccchurch.org/moderator-reflects-on-the-current-times/

Chad Hobbs and Rev. Marie Alford-Harkey, walked the Governing Board through a detailed view of the denominational finance reports. We believe that we all need to understand and be able to respond to financial questions about the church as we move forward. Thank you to them both for all the work they did to help us more fully understand our financial statements. You can find the most recent Financial Snapshot at the bottom of the page.

We passed four motions of appreciation which are listed below:
Motion: The Governing Board would like to thank the MCC staff for their timely and resourceful response during this Global Pandemic. The resources and training that have been provided have supported our churches in their response to the COVID 19 virus.

Motion: The Governing Board of MCC would like to thank all MCC churches, MCC pastors and MCC chaplains for their amazing response during this Global Pandemic. The creativity and support provided by our local churches and chaplains have made all the difference to their communities and beyond. Thank You.

Motion: The Governing Board of MCC would like to thank all frontline responders for their selfless and inspirational response during this Global Pandemic. Words are not enough to express our appreciation and respect for putting your lives in danger to serve your communities around the world. We pray for the safety and for you and your families daily. Thank You!

Motion: The Governing Board of MCC would like to honor other “essential workers” (e.g., grocery store employees, gig-workers, postal workers, and others) for continuing to support the ongoing needs of communities around the world during this time. Many of you often go unseen and underappreciated; we see you and value your gifts and faithfulness. Thank you!

In times like these, the work of the church continues both locally and denominationally. We are seeing the best of our churches, staff, volunteers and leaders. Well done MCC and thank you again.

Blessings,

Rev. Elder Diane Fisher, Clerk of the Governing Board
Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston, Moderator
Mark Godette, Vice Chair
Chad Hobbs, Treasurer
Rev. Alberto Nájera
Clare Coughlin
James Chavis
Rev. Paul Whiting
