MCC Governing Board July Meeting Update:
Discussion and Financial Snapshot
What a time this has been around the world! COVID 19 infections are decreasing in some nations and skyrocketing in others. There has been a global response to the killing of George Floyd which we hope will open the door to honest listening to those most impacted by systemic racism. In all of this we hold on to hope.
We have found some places where hope has risen. Our churches have done amazingly well during this time of sheltering in place. As a denomination, we have learned that different ways of doing things are possible which may help us in becoming a truly global movement.
With all of this as a backdrop, the Governing Board met to discuss the business of the denomination. We were opened in prayer by our Moderator, Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston, who offered prayers for our leaders, our churches and our world. Here is the link for our Moderator’s monthly report where she talks a little about her first year in office.
We celebrated that we have completed our first year as a Governing Board. We are all still committed to the work of the denomination. No one has left and we all genuinely like each other.
We believe that MCC is on the way to becoming healthier which we noted has a lot to do with our amazing staff team. The churches around the globe have been supportive, continuing their amazing ministries. It takes us all to make MCC stronger and we have been awed by our churches’ resilience.
We spoke about finances and the financial snapshot will be at the bottom of this narrative. Financially we are doing surprisingly well. MCC did receive a Payroll Protection Grant for the employees who work in the United States for which we are very appreciative.
Honoring the Birthdays of our First Two Moderators
In celebration of the July birthdays of our first Moderator, Rev. Elder Troy Perry’s, 80th and our second Moderator, Rev. Elder Dr. Nancy Wilson’s, 70th, they have requested that MCC establish the “Still Giving” Campaign. Their wish is to encourage people to donate in honor of their combined 150 years $150, $1,500, or even $15,000 if possible. The goal is to raise $150,000.
This money will establish an Endowment Fund of $100,000, and $50,000 will be dedicated to immediate actions for Racial Justice. Every member of the Governing Board has individually donated to this important and joyous campaign. The Governing Board is creating a committee which will determine our investment strategies and regulations and establish policies about the ways in which we safeguard the Endowment. Help us to say thank you to our former Moderators!
The Governing Board has been committed to creating opportunities for the larger denominational body to dialogue about our work and to ask whatever questions you may have. We will be holding a Governing Board Webinar, in English, on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at UTC / 5pm EDT (UTC-4). There will be a second webinar in Spanish/English, on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 9pm UTC / 5pm EDT (UTC-4). We encourage you to submit any questions you may have to [email protected], by July 16th, 2020. There will be a time for questions to be asked on the call as well.
We look forward to seeing you at the Governing Board Webinars.
