Global Justice Institute Coordinates Donations to Help Bahamian Hurricane Victims

In response to inquiries about helping people in the Bahamas recover from Hurricane Dorian’s devastating impact, MCC is reprinting the Global Justice Institute’s recent appeal for donations (below).

An MCC team of nearly a dozen people consisting of Point Elders, Staff, Governing Board members, Network Coordinators, and Network Leaders have been in regular contact with clergy and church leaders prior to and during the hurricane. The work began more than nine days ago with the focus on churches in Puerto Rico. The territory expanded to churches in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina as the storm tracked north.

If you have any questions or suggestions about natural disaster responses, send them to Linda Brenner, Associate Director for MCC Communications, at [email protected].

Join the Global Justice Institute in Assisting Those Affected by Hurricane Dorian

The Global Justice Institute stands with the people of the Bahamas who have been devastated by Hurricane Dorian. Today we announce our partnership with Sunshine Cathedral, Church of the Holy Spirit Song and Etz Chaim, all of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, to raise funds that will be used entirely for the victims of this storm and the supplies they need.

In the aftermath of the storm, at least 20 people in the Bahamas have lost their lives. According to government officials, billions of dollars are needed to fund the reconstruction effort. In addition, conditions remain so treacherous, rescue workers still face difficulty trying to reach victims of the storm.

As an international church and movement, we experience God’s call to stand with our [siblings] whose lives have been severely impacted by Hurricane Dorian. We ask you to join us by making a financial contribution to this effort via this link, Bahamas Hurricane Relief. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Special Designation: Bahama Hurricane Relief. Every dollar will go to this important relief effort.

Pray for those who remain in the path of Hurricane Dorian and join with us as we stand together with our brothers and sisters in the Bahamas.

May God bless you as you give.
