End of Year Giving

Ending the Year Well…

As we approach the end of 2020, we want to thank you for your generosity and faithfulness to your local MCC congregation, and to our broader MCC movement around the world. Your financial support has funded life-changing ministries that have sustained people through what can only be described as a VERY challenging year. Our leaders have learned new skills and adapted to providing pastoral care, community building, worship, and social justice activities in innovative ways. Our congregations have not only survived this time of physical distancing, but are thriving as they more deeply appreciate the connections they share that transcend buildings and borders. We know that MCC’s vital mission in the world is needed more than ever, and our commitment to meeting that need is stronger than ever.

To help fulfill our mission, MCC denominational staff have been supporting and resourcing local churches, Treasurers, Boards, lay leaders, pastors and Network Leaders. New virtual MCC Communities were formed in the Italian, Spanish and English language. Webinars brought how-to information on conducting virtual legal congregational business meetings, technology tips for virtual worship, online stewardship, pastoral care, and advice from a panel of doctors about the risks of gathering in-person. The CONNECT newsletter linked us with resources and online events around the world. Truly, we have been in this together navigating the changes and challenges! This has been a year of many “firsts” including our Global Memorial Service, our virtual MCC Christmas Concert, and the launch of our visitor website visitMCCchurch.com! Be sure to check it out if you haven’t yet! We are so thankful for your financial support of MCC that has made all this possible.

We would like to encourage you to remember MCC as well as your local church as you are planning your end-of-year gifts. To the extent that you are able, please consider making a donation to MCC to help us get a head start on fully resourcing our essential ministries in 2021. We are grateful for every gift we receive, and our promise to you is that we will be the best stewards of those gifts we can be.

Whether you are able to give or not, please keep us in your prayers during this Christmas season and know that we are likewise praying for you.

We are in this together, we are stronger together, and we need one another.
Thank you again for your generosity!

Additional Tax Benefits of Giving…

In many countries around the world, there are tax incentives given to individuals who donate to non-profit organizations, including MCC. This year, there may be even MORE of these available as governments have struggled and strategized to provide economic relief in the time of COVID. Please check your national laws to learn more about the tax relief that may be available to you where you are.

Tax Benefit for those in the USA

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was passed on March 27, 2020 to help taxpayers, businesses, and nonprofits in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and economic downturn. Included in this act is a tax benefit for those who continue to support organizations like MCC. Specifically, there is a New Universal Charitable Deduction for 2020.

A reduction in taxable income is available in 2020 for donors who do not itemize their deductions, i.e., an “above-the-line” adjustment to income that will reduce a donor’s Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) and consequently taxable income. The adjustment is available for cash gifts up to $300 per taxpayer or $600 for a married couple. Previously, these adjustments were only available for those who itemized their taxes. This deduction makes your charitable giving very tax wise as it will save you money on your income taxes this year.

If you have not yet made a donation in this amount, we strongly encourage you to think about doing so before 31 December 2020 when this one-time allowance will expire.
