MCC Governing Board February Meeting Update:

Governing Board Narrative for 2 January 2021:2020 Governing Board

Dear Friends:

The meeting of February 2nd, 2021 opened with a short prayer calling us together as community. We check in with each other at the beginning of every meeting as a touch point about how each of us is doing. It helps us care for each other in the work we do.

We were all very excited about the overwhelming denominational support of the eight new elders and we welcome them to their new roles. We regret that Rev. Dr. Roland Stringfellow felt that he was unable to serve currently with all his other obligations. He will continue to serve as Chair of the Commission on Pathways of Healing and Reconciliation. The Elders Blessing Service took place on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. A video recording of the service is available here:

COVID 19 continues to ravage our world. Many nations, cities and communities have returned to lock down as new strains of the virus emerge. The vaccine holds promise and we are increasingly aware of the need for more vaccine to be made available around the world. Globally, MCC still needs to take this extremely seriously, maintaining the cautions of mask wearing and social distancing.

Moderator Rev Elder Cecilia Eggleston, Vice Chair Mark Godette and Clare Coughlin will form a small team to consider what steps the Governing Board needs to take with the Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Report.

The Finance and Endowment Team are considering which firm they will work with regarding the investment of the Endowment Fund. The Team is extremely excited about their meetings with a self-identified “minority run” company. The inclusion of firms in our Request for Proposals was specifically motivated by our commitment to Racial Justice/Equity at every level of our organization.

Our financial position is looking solid. Thank you to all our donors and churches for making this a reality. Also, thank you to our amazing Treasurer, Chad Hobbs and our denominational Finance Team. For more information on finances, go here.

The Governing Board would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Cathy Heroux-Campbell as she leaves the Finance Team. As an accountant, she has been extremely helpful and valued during her years of service. Thank you again for your commitment, passion, and clarity on the Finance Team.

Our Moderator continues to refine our direction as a denomination, working closely with our staff. On Thursday Evenings she continues to be accessible through her prayer time on Facebook. A link to the Moderator’s Report is below.

As we move forward together through Lent, may we find hope in the journey, may we find ways to alleviate the suffering from COVID 19 and also learn from this experience, and may you be wrapped in the never-ending love of God.

Be Blessed!

Respectfully Submitted:
Rev. Elder Diane Fisher, Clerk, on behalf of the Governing Board
Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston, Moderator
Mark Godette, Vice Chair
Chad Hobbs, Treasurer
Rev. Paul Whiting
James Chavis
Rev. Alberto Najera
Clare Coughlin
Rev. Marie Alford-Harkey
