Equity and Justice Interviews
“For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And God has given us this command: Anyone who loves me must also love their brother and sister.”
I John 4:20-21
Commission on Pathways of Healing and Reconciliation: Is made up of Commissioners from various parts of MCC tasked with setting the foundation for an ongoing process of growth, development, and cultural change in the areas of race equity, diversity, and inclusion as a long-term commitment throughout MCC.
Purpose: The Commissioners would like to thank those who have already contributed and we would like to continue to hear directly from you on your personal experience around incidents of racism and/or the barriers to race equity within MCC. We would like to meet with you and your other MCC Kinship Group members. Our time together is designed to listen to your perspective on where MCC stands on providing a race equitable culture. We recognize that in many cultures, the main challenge to equity is not racial, but based upon concerns of privilege and class differences. In many MCC churches, equity is also challenged by a dominate gender (example: women in a male dominated congregation). If you have comments or experiences dealing with class or gender bias, we encourage you to share these experiences as well.
The responses will be used to take an additional snapshot in time of the opinions of denominational leadership to help the Commission on Pathways of Healing and Reconciliation in making recommendations to the Governing Board for an in-depth review of MCC and its current state in relation to race equity. Your name will not be included in the report; however, we will identify the Kinship Group you are a member of.
Thank you for your consideration to join us in this important discussion as well as the time and attention you will give to this interview process. Your input will help in the work towards helping MCC Churches to live into our mission of being an inclusive spiritual organization and places of worship.
With Appreciation,
The Commission on Pathways of Healing and Reconciliation
