The Commission has begun its work to fulfill the charter establishing the team to review, listen, plan and recommend. The Terms of Reference can be found here.
The Commission held initial meetings to get introduced to each other and to start dialogues with each other that will assist in creating good working relationships, sacred space for sacred work, and mutual respect. The meetings have also served as mechanisms to establish timelines and work plans, to re-examine documentation and reports from previous working groups to determine what recommendations continue to be viable and actionable.
We are grateful to Reece Jackson-Whitaker for their willingness to serve on the Commission. Reece has resigned from the Commission to focus their energy on other ministry areas. As the body that determines and appoints the Commissioners, the Governing Board is considering who may be appointed to this position. We thank Reece for their input and engagement during initial development and first meeting of the Commission.
Future plans for the Commission include adding a Commission page to the website, https://www.mccchurch.org/commission-on-pathways-of-healing/, so that documents, briefing notes and other communications can be reviewed. The Commissioners, along with the MCC Staff and Governing Board, will participate in anti-oppression and anti-racism training so that the team can have a common lexicon and language for our work with the issues and dynamics that we face.
Please hold the team and the denomination in your prayers.
