MCC Governing Board August Meeting Update:
Discussion and Financial Snapshot

Governing Board Narrative for 4 August 2020:2020 Governing Board

Dear People of God,

The Governing Board is thankful for so many blessings in these times of ongoing uncertainty. We are so thankful for the continued faithfulness and generosity of MCCers around the world who give their time, talents and finances to support their local church. Your giving is reflected in the assessments that congregations offer to support the ministry of MCC worldwide, through the work of our staff, the Moderator, the Governing Board, the Council of Elders and the many volunteers who give so freely of their time and talents. As you can see from the dashboard at the end of this update, MCC is rebuilding its financial health, thanks to your faithfulness and good stewardship.

In July we joined with Rev. Elder Troy Perry and Rev. Elder Dr. Nancy Wilson to celebrate their milestone birthdays through the Still Giving Campaign. The proceeds from this campaign will establish an MCC endowment fund and provide resources for our racial justice work. We are delighted to announce that US$103,430 has been raised so far in donations and pledges. We received donations from over 160 households in 9 different countries. Some further donations will come later in the year, so the Still Giving campaign will remain an option on the donations button on the MCC website, for those of you who still wish to honour these two amazing leaders. Every MCC staff member, every member of the Governing Board and members of the Council of Elders all made individual contributions. We are so grateful to Troy and Nancy for the many different ways that they are Still Giving.

The Governing Board established a working group in our August meeting to develop an ethical investment policy and provide the Governing Board with research and recommendations on different endowment funds.

The Moderator is working with the Washington Consulting Group, members of the Commission on Pathways of Healing and Reconciliation and MCC staff to develop our anti-racism work.

We are grateful to Reese Jackson-Whitaker for their willingness to serve on the Commission. Reese has resigned from the Commission in order to focus their energy on other ministry areas. The Governing Board is considering who may be appointed to this position. We thank Reese for their input and engagement during initial development and first meeting of the Commission.

The Governing Board remains committed to clear communication and transparency. We are thankful to those who participated in the two recent Governing Board webinars and submitted questions. The Governing Board presented an overview of its work in the past 9 nine months, an update on MCC finances and the work of the Commissions, as well as other topics. Thank you to Enrique Lopez and Rev. Elder Hector Gutierrez for their assistance with translation into Spanish. Over 60 people attended the webinars live and more were able to watch the recording of the English webinar. If you would like to watch it, here is the link

There will be more Governing Board webinars later in the year.

Thank you to each of you for all that you do. It takes all of us to be MCC.
