Copyright Issues to Keep in Mind When Live Streaming from Your Ministry

From Enrique Zenteno López
Regarding your question about means to broadcast live worship services for our churches, I am suggesting the following options, with features and options.

The main two free streaming services for any church regardless of its size, would be:

  1. Facebook -using Live – best when broadcasting from a Page (not a regular, personal bio). Best when using an external webcam. Broadcasting from a laptop computer is best, some mobile phones and tablets do not take the live feature.
  2. YouTube -Same applies here. As with Facebook, it is highly recommended church uses an external microphone for best sound, not depending on the computer’s or phone small microphones without enough range to catch sounds. Some churches use a small sound mixer to plug a cardioid microphone to the computer with enough cable extension.

Both the external camera and microphone do create a huge quality difference for broadcasts.

Additional professional streaming services for churches to be considered include:

  1. streamingvideoprovider.com/ – from $39/mo (recorded broadcast) to $99/mo (live broadcast) include storage space and enough bandwidth for visitors;
  2. boxcast.com starts at 99/mo and has unlimited, automated features and no annual commitment.
  3. You might want to check out streamingchurch.tvdacast.com and sermoncast.com.

If the church has a technical/computer savvy volunteer doing basic Live Facebook streaming, but would like to go to the next best step, I highly recommend OBS, which is an excellent freeware one uses to create a more professional broadcast either in Facebook or YouTube, even other platforms. With OBS you can have pre-set presentation screens, add titling, even broadcast from your computer’s desktop or navigator’s windows.
