Rev. Araceli Ezzatti
Rev. Araceli Ezzatti, a native of Uruguay, was ordained as a United Methodist pastor in 1970. She is married and has three sons, one of whom is gay. She has her M.A. in Theology and Psychology and is a doctoral candidate at the Instituto Superior de Estudios Teológicos de Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has studied Popular Education, methods of instruction which take into account the contextual situation especially of marginalized and poor people instead of only the elite, with Paulo Freire in Chile, Peru and Tanzania.
She is a member of the World Council of Churches and served as vice-moderator of Faith and Order, focused on main doctrinal subjects from an ecumenical point of view, from 1984-1998. She has been a member of the World Council of Churches Commission to Overcome Violence since 1995.
She has taught Latin American Theologies in Spain in 1983-1984 and in England in 1987. She is coordinator of programs of Theological Education in Uruguay and has served as pastor to people in the marginalized areas of Montevideo since 1990.
She is co-founder of Diaconia en la Diversidad, a ministry among sexually diverse people. This group is presently in the process of affiliation with MCC. Rev. Ezzatti first encountered MCC at a Latin American meeting in Montevideo where she met Rev. Elder Armando Sanchez, Carlos Chavez and others related to MCC. She attended the MCC General Conference in July 2003 in Dallas. Thereafter she attended the MCC Women in Ministry Conference in Sarasota in February 2004 and the MCC Region 7 Regional Conference in Charlotte in July 2004.
