Summary of "Tanz, David, Tanz"
Rev. Axel Schwaigert - Salz der Erde MCC, Stuttgart, GermanyKing David danced naked before the Ark of the Covenant, leading a throng of people, jubilantly celebrating creation and God. When he returned home, his wife berated him for making a spectacle of himself.
David replied that he didn’t care what other people thought and that he would continue to celebrate his life, Creation and the goodness of God. The dance of David was a dance that has gone on throughout creation from the beginning and continued in Jesus, through his life and ministry. Death did not end the dance; it went on in his resurrection and continues on to this day.
Just as the queen did to King David, people berate the gay and lesbian community for our displays of celebration, but we can say to them that we don’t care what other people say, we will continue to celebrate our lives, creation and the goodness of God.
The dance begun with the Stonewall revolution continues in us as well. This is not just a political manifesto, but a spiritual one as well.
