A Message from The
Reverend Dr. Troy D. Perry Moderator,
Metropolitan Community
Churches
Dear MCC
Friend:
I want you to mark your calendar for a joyous
celebration to be held in Washington, DC on October 29 and 30,
2005.
These dates will mark the
installation of MCC's new Moderator.
The
installation service will take place at Washington National
Cathedral -- known internationally as a "House of
Prayer for All People" -- and the church where the Rev.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached his last
sermon.
Over the past century, the Cathedral has
welcomed a vast array of international leaders and faith
communities -- and on October 29 and 30,
2005, Washington National Cathedral will
welcome Metropolitan Community Churches and host the
installation of our new Moderator.
The schedule below is a preliminary schedule which
will allow friends to begin planning their travel
dates.

Washington National Cathedral is a most appropriate place for the installation
services to be held. The Cathedral holds a unique place in
historical and ecumenical life.
In 1791, U.S. President
George Washington commissioned Major Pierre l’Enfant to design
the future seat of government. Included in l’Enfant’s plan was
a cathedral, “intended for great
events, such as public prayer, thanksgiving, funeral orations,
etc., and assigned to the special use of no particular Sect or
denomination, but equally open to all.”
Washington
National Cathedral has welcomed a "Who's Who"
of speakers and preachers to its pulpit, including U.S.
Presidents, members of the U.S. Supreme Court, international
spiritual and political leaders, ranging from Archbishop
Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela to Billy Graham, Robert
Schuller, and numerous leaders of Christian denominations as
well as a leaders from a broad range of faith
communities.
The Cathedral served as host for the
National Prayer Service following the 9/11 terrorist attacks
and for prayer services for U.S. Presidential inaugurations
and funerals -- and was the site of Rev. Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr's. last sermon on March 31,
1968.
Washington National Cathedral is the sixth
largest cathedral in the world, and the second largest in the
U.S.
Since the first services were held there in 1912,
Washington National Cathedral has welcomed people of all
faiths as they have gathered to worship and pray, to mourn the
passing of world leaders, and to confront the pressing moral
and social issues of the day.
On October 29, 2005, it
will open a new chapter in the mission and ministry of
Metropolitan Community Churches.
I hope you will join
me along with MCC friends and members from around the
world for the installation services and celebrations for our
new Moderator in Washington, DC on October 29 and 30,
2005.
In Christ,
/signed/ The Reverend Dr.
Troy D. Perry Moderator of Metropolitan Community
Churches
