Valentine's Day
- February 14, 2005 MCC-Sponsored LGBT Marriage Actions |
On Monday morning, Feb. 14 -- Valentine's Day -- Rev. Troy Perry and his
partner Phillip Ray DeBlieck* will hold a public demonstration at a
courthouse in Los Angeles in support of LGBT couples who will apply for
civil marriage licenses that day.
They are inviting the media to cover this event.
Rev. Perry will use this annual opportunity to call attention to the
unfairness of the marriage laws in the U.S.
He is inviting tens of thousands of MCC couples -- along with other
couples in the GLBT communities -- to do the same:
1. Go to your courthouse or municipal office on Monday, Feb. 14 and
apply for a marriage license. (If Monday doesn't work with your
schedule, select another day during Valentine's Week.)
2. Tell your local media and press about your plans and ask them to
cover your event as part of their Valentine's Day news coverage.
3. Invite your fellow MCCers and friends to join you for this public
event in your town or city.
4. MCC clergy may wish to hold a public same-sex wedding ceremony on
the courthouse steps for a couple whose license application has been
rejected.
