An Urgent Message
From Rev. Troy Perry

Founder of Metropolitan Community Churches

TIME VALUE -- IMPORTANT -- TIME VALUE

Dear Friend of the LGBT Communities:

I'm writing to you with an unusual sense of urgency today.

I know you are as concerned as am I by President Bush's remarks on same-sex marriage rights in the recent U.S. State of the Union speech.

Like many in our community, I was alarmed by the hypocrisy of the President's comments. For the first time ever, the U.S. President gave public support to a constitutional amendment to prevent the legal recognition of same-sex marriages.

If successful, it would be the first time in U.S. history a constitutional
amendment has been used to restrict the rights of a minority group!

I was especially struck by these words from President Bush: "...each individual has dignity and value in God's sight." At Metropolitan Community Churches, we believe that dignity and equal rights are inseparable.

Just as alarming, his attack placed the religious and moral values of some citizens above the legal rights of all citizens The President called on judges to render decisions on same-sex marriage based upon "the will of the people" -- rather than upon the law.

Well, I hope you agree with me:
The will of some citizens should never be used to deny legal rights to any group in our society!

And let's be clear:

This struggle is an international struggle. For example, our Canadian brothers and sisters also find themselves at a crossroads. Even as thousands of same-sex couples travel to Canada to be legally married, there are those who would rollback those gains.

Here is why I need your help today:

Every year during Valentine's Week, Metropolitan Community Churches sponsor public events, rallies, civil rights actions and media events in towns and cities around the world. This year -- right now! -- these "Freedom To Marry" events are more important than ever.

Today, I'm asking for your help. You see, across the globe, MCC friends and members are working for marriage rights for all people. That's why I'm asking if you would make a tax-deductible donation to help us carry on the vital struggle for to obtain legal marriage rights for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender persons?

With President Bush's anti-gay endorsement, politicians and reactionary groups are already lining up to fight against our rights.

Your gift -- in any amount -- will help us carry on this fight and make this year's "Freedom To Marry" events the most successful ever.

Here's my pledge to you:
Every penny you donate will be used 100% to fight for equal marriage rights for the LGBT communities around the world.

Your gift will make a difference in this struggle -- in the lives of real people. To make your tax-deductible donation right now, simply click here -- https://app.etapestry.com/hosted/UniversalFellowshipofMetrpo/OnlineGiving_fs.html   -- and follow the instructions.
