AN UPDATE ON 14% TITHE PROPOSAL

l

A Message From The Moderator's Office

At MCC's 2005 General Conference in Calgary, the Board of Administration came to the delegates very late with a proposal to freeze tithes at 14%. The Conference was gracious and supportive and voted overwhelmingly to do this.

The Board of Administration and the Board of Elders have conducted a process over the past two years to gather input from churches and pastors about whether to extend this freeze for two more years, through the 2010 General Conference. We held forums at every Regional Conference, and had lengthy discussions about our Strategic Priorities, our financial transparency and accountability, and MCC's sustainability. At every Regional gathering there was strong support for continuing at the 14% level while MCC continues to move through a period of transition. Many seemed to feel we were moving in the right direction and did not want any cutbacks in services and initiatives at this time.

After reviewing all the comments and feedback, the BOA and BOE are jointly proposing to continue the 14% tithe level through 2010.

DON'T MISS THE MCC CHURCH PLANTING INSTITUTE!

l

MCC is poised today to enter a new era of intentional church planting! Now is the time to prepare for the adventure of a lifetime.

MCC needs gifted, willing, trained, on-fire leaders to plant churches around the world. Right now, MCC has too few outlets (churches or ministries) to get out the message and share the life-giving ministry that is MCC's gift to the wider community.

Only one thing is stopping us: Committed, trained, leaders with a passion for sharing MCC's good news with people who have never had the opportunity to experience it before. We need that new generation of spiritual activists to become the pioneers of a new generation of strong, vital churches.

If this sounds like you, or someone you know, or if your church has been talking about getting involved in church planting, won't you consider staying one extra day after General Conference? Join us on July 7, 2007, and learn how you can be part of MCC's emerging ministry! As the song says, "What a difference a day makes!" July 7, 2007, is that day! Check it out and sign up today!

HERE'S YOUR INVITATION FROM REV. DR. JUDY DAHL

BE A GEM DONORS STILL URGENTLY NEEDED!

Dear MCC Friend:

The BE A GEM campaign has been underway for several weeks, and I want to express thanks to the individuals and churches who have so generously contributed to this effort. Thanks to your generosity, to date we have raised $15,000 (USD).

If you've already joined the BE A GEM campaign, you have the joy that comes from knowing that your gifts will bring those who could not otherwise attend MCC's General Conference in Scottsdale. Thank you so much!

The BE A GEM campaign will soon come to a close. But before we do so, I want you to know there is still an urgent need to raise additional funds to bring MCCers from around the world to Scottsdale in July -- MCCers who otherwise will not be able to join us.

That's why I'm writing to offer you one more opportunity to BE A GEM. Would you consider one of the following ways to BE A GEM?

-- Send a financial contribution. Simply visit www.MCCchurch.org and click on the BE A GEM graphic to make your donation.

-- Donate your frequent flyer miles to help someone travel to conference. Sometimes these miles can be difficult to use for international travel; to find out, call your airline and ask if they can be used from or to Latin America, Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Asia or Europe. This could help more than you know.

-- If you have a double hotel room and are only using one bed, consider sharing the other bed with someone from outside the US who cannot afford the hotel expense.

-- MCCers who travel from long distances can always use help purchasing meals. Would you BE A GEM and purchase just one meal ticket for one of our distance travelers? A meal ticket will only cost you $15 (USD) If everyone who registered for conference purchased only one meal ticket, we could feed all of our participants three good meals a day.

If you are able to BE A GEM in any of the ways mentioned above, alert the conference staff by going to the MCC website and clicking on the conference page -- or you can send an e-mail right now to conferences@MCCchurch.net.

As we become a truly global denomination, it is the privilege and responsibility of each of us to do what we can to make this happen.

Won't you join us in this important effort?

With love and blessings,

Rev. Dr. Judy Dahl

PS. I look forward to seeing you in Scottsdale Arizona soon!
