The 2005
MCC World AIDS Day Sermon Competition
Open To Both MCC Clergy & Laity
Sponsored By the MCC Office of Leadership Development

Submission Deadline: December 10, 2005

Send us your World AIDS Day sermon!

We are looking for new and original sermons that address a faith response to the ongoing HIV and AIDS pandemic in our world.

Selected sermons will be posted on the MCC website -- and shared with other faith communities through the World Faith News Service, the joint information service of the World Council of Churches and the National Council of Churches/USA.

This is opportunity to show the world more of what we have learned about contemporary and effective ministry to persons with HIV/AIDS -- and about the broader spiritual, political, and health issues addressed in HIV ministry.

We will award 10 prizes of $100 gift certificates from Amazon.com to authors of the ten strongest sermons -- and the selected sermons will be posted on the MCC website.

The contest is open to all MCC clergy and lay members. Sermons must have been preached in the presence of a congregation before December 10, 2005, and you may edit your text after delivery for the sake of clarity.

To participate, simply submit your sermon in written form, either in the body of an e-mail or as an attached Word or text document, by December 10, 2005 to BillHooper@MCCchurch.org.

Alternately, you may mail your sermon text to MCC Sermon Contest, ATTN: Bill Hooper, Office of Leadership Development, 8704 Santa Monica Boulevard, 2nd Floor, West Hollywood, CA 90069 -- or fax it to 310-360-8680, ATTN: MCC Sermon Contest.

Please include your readings -- the citation of Biblical passages and any poems, prose or other non-Biblical material used as a reading should be written out.

IMPORTANT: Do not include your name in the text of your document. Place your name and contact info in the body of the e-mail, on a fax cover sheet or in a cover letter. Your sermon will be read without your name or other identifying information.

Sermons will be reviewed on the overall strength of their content, clarity of internal argument, craft as a spoken art form, and accuracy in the use of Biblical material. As a group, the sermons should speak from and to the great diversity of theological and international perspectives that make up MCC. We aren't looking for any one theology or perspective; rather we want you to articulate well what it is that you believe and preach, wherever that may fall on the MCC theological spectrum.

The selected sermons will be announced on December 15, 2005.

This sermon competition is sponsored by the MCC Office of Leadership Development.

Let your voice be heard!
