First Freedom First and MCC

MCC has partnered with First Freedom First, a partnership of The Interfaith Alliance Foundation and Americans United for Separation of Church and State.  In an effort to uphold the freedoms promised by the United States constitution for US citizens, MCC is proud to support the efforts of First Freedom First.

About First Freedom First (from www.FirstFreedomFirst.org)
Established in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, religious liberty -- the right of individuals to worship or not -- was and is a defining American value. Often referred to as the "first freedom," this constitutionally guaranteed right is the foundation for the separation of church and state. This separation protects us from undue religious influence in government and undue government intervention in religion and private decision-making. We recognize that the wall separating government and religion is being eroded, and so is our right to make personal decisions.

More Information
First Freedom First calls interested activitsts to sign a petition stating the following...(from www.FirstFreedomFirst.org)

We, the undersigned, call upon elected and appointed officials to join us in reaffirming America's religious freedom by demonstrating a commitment to the following:

  • Every American should have the right to make personal decisions -- about family life, reproductive health, end of life care and other matters of personal conscience.
  • American tax dollars should not go to charities that discriminate in hiring based on religious belief or that promote a particular religious faith as a requirement for receiving services.
  • Political candidates should not be endorsed or opposed by houses of worship.
  • Public schools should teach with academic integrity and without the promotion of religious preference or belief.
  • Decisions about scientific and health policies should be based on the best available scientific data, not on religious doctrine.

We join together, as the most diverse nation in the world, to commit ourselves to defending and preserving this freedom.

MCC's Call
As set out in MCC's Vision and Mission, we are called to:

  • Do justice, show kindness, and live humbly with God. (Micah 6:8)
  • Raise our voices in sacred defiance against religious (and political or systemic) exclusion.
  • Lift up new generations of remarkable, far-reaching spiritual activists.

We believe that supporting First Freedom First allows us to, in part, make steps toward these goals.  We hope that you will choose to learn more about First Freedom First and the groups that partnered to form this initiative.
