On-Site Report From Rev. Elder Diane Fisher -- MCC's
Eastern Europe Initiative
Moldova Imagine:
Imagine a country
Where armed guards
Are everywhere;
Where you are watched
Coming in and going out
Of your hotel.
Imagine a city where electric
Power comes and goes
At the whim of Russia, government
People of Chisinau suffer
Through times of oppression
For their defiance.
Imagine going to market,
Outside, in the rain
Meat, open to the elements
People jostling through
Cramped stalls to find food
For the week ahead mealtimes.
Imagine gendarmes at every corner
Waiting, watching for you to step out of line
Four check points at
The airport, where you are
Looked at with suspicion
Feeling guilty - no reason.
Imagine hiding -- your love,
Your identity, fearing for your life
For the life of your family, your friends
Walking with fear, always looking
Over your shoulder
Trying to be invisible.
Imagine, courage and strength
A small group gathering
To stand up for love
Genderdoc-M is formed
To say we must have rights
To hold a country accountable.
Imagine young and old together
Women and men and all those
In the gender mix
Working together to change their country
A country still in the Russian family
Standing up for their rights.
Imagine tearing down walls
And building up hope!
Imagine supporting a nation
To give freedom to all!
Imagine working together
Standing as one,
With you, and me,and others as well.
We can be tearing down walls
And building up hope.
Imagine!

Elder Diane Fisher while working and ministering in Moldova as part of
