Rev. Elder Lillie Brock currently serves as the elected Elder for Region 7. She officially began her duties on January 1, 2003, and will serve until the Region 7 sub-regional Conferences are completed.

As a member of the Board of Elders, an Elder elected by a Region exercises spiritual and pastoral authority to build a shared vision for MCC, prepare MCC for the future, and set MCC’s strategic direction. Elders serve as official representatives of MCC in the areas of public and community relations. Elders also work cooperatively together to lead and support MCC-wide ministry areas.

Within the geographical area, an Elder elected by a Region works to:

  • Facilitate affirmation of Regional ministry goals;
  • Facilitate cooperation between churches;
  • Deliver resource materials and services to local churches;
  • Assure provision of pastoral care, guidance, and mentoring for pastoral leaders;
  • Assure systems of delivery for conflict management and mediation;
  • Resource local churches for recruitment and selection of pastoral leadership;
  • Assure opportunities for leadership development and training for clergy and lay leaders;
  • Facilitate strategic efforts, in cooperation with local churches;
  • Manage processes for church affiliation and accountability;
  • Oversee the planning of Regional conferences; and
  • Moderate Regional Conferences.

One of the most important changes adopted by the last General Conference is the approach to selection of those individuals who will give spiritual leadership to our regions and to all of MCC. The new approach is more similar to the selection of a pastor in a local church – rather than a contest among a field of candidates. It entrusts a representative process to bring forward one highly qualified nominee to be considered for election as the Elder in a Region. It is expected that this process will be much more proactive in bringing the brightest and best of MCC leadership to serve as servant leaders in the role of Elders serving Regions.

The Elders Nominating Committee(ENC) is appointed by the Board of Elders and is supported in its work by aRegional Nominations Facilitating Committee (RNFC) that is elected by the Region. The ENC will present to the Region 7 Regional Conference the name of one highly qualified candidate for Elder to be considered for election by Region 7. The Elder will then serve for the next six years. The name and qualifications of the candidate for election will be announced by the Elders Nominating Committee to churches and delegates at least 30 days prior to the Region 7 Conference, as provided for in MCC Bylaws.
